For the 25 milers, you can give your horse a dose at each vet
check and again at the end of the ride. But, if you don't have
any electrolytes, don't worry over much.
50 milers generally give a dose the night before, the morning
of, at each vet check and at the end of the ride.
For competitive trail riders, you can put electrolytes
in a bucket of water and allow the horse to choose between
the electrolyte water and the plain water.
In all cases, make sure the horse is drinking plenty of water.
If you force feed electrolytes and the horse is not drinking,
your horse will get into trouble.
Read the instructions that come with the electrolytes to
determine what a "dose" is.
