I am interested in the comment about "pulling down" to save the
back. Perhaps that is what is happening with my new horse, but
perhaps you can expand on this.
He is very well schooled, jumps, does dressage, knows his stuff, has
done endurance but no for a few years. He has been sore on his right
hip and refused to take his right lead when I got him. This was
attributed to a spree in Aiken with the pony club daughter who might
have jumped him more than she said she did. We did chiro and
acupuncture and took him home to Vermont. Lots of hills, more ouchy
rear end, to be expected. However, he is now able to carry himself
on the right lead in a circle, but straight is still tough although
we are getting there (5 weeks). What he does on the right lead is to
drop his head to his knees and canter along happy as can be. He is
better on the circles, but is "pulling down?" . No doubt he is
protecting something or streaching something or ???. No problems to
the left. Also his trot work is good and he will travel straight to
the right with leg, but not on his own. My endurance horses have all
learned to streach down while moving to relax, so I am interested in
hearing about "pulling down" being an evasive move
