Biltmore Trails

Sorry I could'n post this privately, but evidently did too much
cleanup this morning and deleted one post too many. Yesterday someone asked
for info on the trails at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. I am lucky
enough to live just under an hour's pull, barn to barn, and condition up
there regularly. It is by far my favorite place to ride even though most of
the time I'm trimming, clearing or marking trails, or helping to make new or
recover old & long unused ones. Many of the trails at the Biltmore are old
carrage trails and therefore wide enough for two or three riders across.
The trails have all been measured and maped and there is a color coded guide
at the barn showing distances of each, as well as permanent colored arrows
marking the actual trails. To me, aside from the pure beauity of the area,
I enjoy not to having to worry about crossing roads, meeting motorbikes,
neighbors dogs, and the like. Wether it would be worth your while to join
the Biltmore Saddle & Bridle Club (BSBC) rather than paying the daily fees
is purely your decision, but I definitely reccomend riding the trails.
For information on joining the BSBC, day or short term
camping/visits or other related questions call Jane Howell, Biltmore Barn
Manager at 704-274-6943. I'm sure she'll be glad to give you all the needed
info.
And if you are looking for a riding companion, let me know when
you're planning to come. I work what's usually a 4-day, 35-40 hour week and
generally ride there on Wednesdays and/or weekends. Also, is your husband
a rider? I may be able to bring a spare horse, although not conditioned for
anything lenghty. But I should warn you (after all the discussions lately)
that I'm one of those gaited horse people. I'm offering him a Paso Fino to
see some trails on.
Call, or e-mail me privately if I can be any help. I love meeting
new friends, especially horse people.
