I talked to Stagg Newman last night, and he expressed concern that in
July we would have problems with horses failing to recover in case we
had one of our more typical July weather situations with a lot of heat
and humidity. Stagg also mentioned that hot, humid weather coupled with
the sandy footing, particularly the sandy footing, seems to be a
contributing factor in horses developing thumps. He suggested that I
consider September because the weather might be better.
I looked at the AERC rides already scheduled for September and just
don't think that there is room in that month for another endurance ride,
particularly a 2 day 100. What I want to ask is how do you all feel
about a ride in early November? That would duck the hot, humid weather
and most of the bugs and there aren't a lot of endurance rides scheduled
as yet for that month. None in the NE Region. What with the 2 CTR's
that NJTRA puts on in October, adding another ride that month is out of
the question. But, would it be worth it to try for say the second
weekend in November?
Please e-mail me privately and let me know what you think. Remember,
the BOD meeting is this Thursday, 3/13, and I need to have this put
together into a neat and tidy package to present.
Thanks, again for all your input. And, believe me, if I can figure out
how to do it it will happen!
