What would this horse be worth?
My Semper Fi (Super Fly) was the best of the best. Maybe there were horses
that could beat him, maybe there weren't. OK-we didn't win every race, just
some of them. Fi has a heart of solid gold that somehow must be bigger
then his whole body. The Eye Of The Eagle and the attitude of a Teddy
Bear. He never cared if we came in first or last as long as we had the
wind in our hair. He loves nothing more in life then to run like the
devil up, down, flat, mud, rocks, trees - - - We had very few races over 5
hours, many closer to 4. He was my first endurance horse and yes, what I
did (and didn't do) have forced an early semi-retirement. He gave much
more than I ever asked and I have no doubt that his surefootedness save my
life more than once(no kidding).
He was a product of the Fall Of Prices of the Arabian Horse. He was
purchased as one of a lot of five when a large ranch went under. A mare
had been left to be breed, was never picked up, the stud fee never paid.
I have no idea of his breeding. I dream of his potential had he been my
3-4 endurance horse, instead of my 'learning-horse'.
I paid $500 for him
( and was angry because the owner had agreed to $300 and then raised the
price..... This was for a registered horse. I didn't find out the truth
until later.)
Now he belongs to my 5yr old son.
It bring tears to see them trotting down the trail.
My Best Friend taking The Light of My Life carefully up&down the tallest,
rockiest climbs and thru deep water and mud, carefully dancing that soft
jog he never would do for me.
I was angry because I had to pay so much for him.
On the market today, he would be almost worthless.
It would rip my heart out to let him go at any price.
