West Region and Southwest Region Riders:

A new 100 mile ride has just been added to the AERC ride
calendar. Scheduled for June 14, this ride will appeal to
many who are conditioning for the Tevis Ride in July.

Californios 100 will have significant altitude changes,
but is much less rocky than the Tevis. See below for
descriptions of the trail, entry fees, and ride manager
information.

This information, along with the Entry Form itself, is
being mounted on the Endurance Web site
(www.endurance.net). Look for it under "What's New" and
"Events".

CALIFORNIOS 100
sponsored by The Lakes Community Club
14 June 1997

(This ride evolved from the Precipitous Poppy and the
Halloween Horror)

SANCTIONING: 100 mile ride is Sanctioned by AERC.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Base camp is at The Lakes Community Club in Lake
Hughes California. Elevation is approximately 3000 feet. There are
two gas stations available as well as a country store and a

available for purchase Friday evening by the Community
Club. The Boy Scouts will offer Breakfast after the ride
Sunday morning. Riders will receive tickets with paid
entry. Breakfast will be $5.00 per ticket.

TRAIL: The trail will be one continuous loop. Vet checks will
be easily accessible but not all will be allowed for crews. We
will do everything possible to assist when crews are not allowed.
Over 60 miles will be totally on the Pacific Crest Trail. There
will be close to 20 miles on flat desert roads and 20 miles on
fire roads. It is fairly rock free with excellent footing on the
Pacific Crest Trail. Expect some significant elevation gain on
the PCT. The bulk of the day should be spent in the Mountains with
overhanging trees. Glow bars and chalk will mark the trail. The
desert in June will be warm but can be quite chilly in the evening.
