Agreed - it is a great way to teach yourself & your horse what competition &
pacing - are all about. Our little local club though, refused to affiliate
with the national organization. They did not use a Vet as one of the
"judges".

My husband & I started with two 5 yr. old mares in 93. We found the judging
to be very baised against Arabs. The final straw was when I was told by a
"judge", that my mare had "lumps". We had the Vet scheduled for the following
day anyway - & asked him about the "lumps". He got a good laugh! The
suspicious lumps were, (as we were 90% sure) fat over muscle!

In 95 a friend who rode with us decided to try endurance. She convienced us
that "those crazy endurance riders", weren't as crazy as we'd been led to
believe!

We still go, pay to ride, (forget any judging) & use the marked trail for
training.
The rules can be incredible - with shoeing at the top of the list!
