YOu need to give your vaccinations to at least THAT horse right now- he is
going to need about 2 weeks for them to take effect.
Other than that, my horses get EVERYTHING even though efficacy has not bene
PROVEN in some.
By everything I mean:
Eastern, WEstern, Venezuelan Encephalitis ,
Tetanus
Rhinopneumonitis (EHV 1 and 4)
Equine Influenza (A1-A2)
Rabies
and the babies all get a series of Strep Equi vaccines when it's time
because I feel it may help.
ALl the horse sthat compete (none right now) get a series of Potomac HOrse
Fever cause it's endemic here and north.I give PHF again in the fall, and
usually I will give the Flu Rhino shot every three months or so- I don't
compete enough to justify giving it more often than that, nor have I been
lucky enough to have cuaght diseases from places- other than Ringworm that is.
Teh broodmares are of course on a different schedule altogether.
WE also get our Coggins tests done on those that are leaving the farm for
any reason, andI usually make sure to do Ivermectin deworming in the spring
and every two months after- more often if you are on tight quarters and your
horses are carrying them- fecal should determine that.
