This is good advice Roger. I have had some very rude riders stand and
look at their HRM and tap their foot at the same time as I tell them that
the horse isn't down. I'm sorry, but I know how to take a pulse, and if I
think that the beat is a little high for criteria, I will usually take it
twice just to check myself. I had one person give me the evil eye while I
called her not down. I got tired of the humphing and the mumbling, so I
sent her on to the vets, who were not busy at the time anyway. they sent
her out with a horse who was not down then. Made them look at the horse
really closely since he should have had time. I don't know if thta rider
finished or not. Seemed like he was having a hard time of it that day,
probably due to rider error from paying too damn much attention to the
HRM, and not enough to the horse.
sorry. Didn't mean to get on a soapbox. I just really get ill when a rider
tries to argue with the P&R people. It's not fair to the people who are
there as volunteers. I call it as I hear it. I don't care who you are, or
what place you might be in if you can get through P&R in a hurry.
Everyone else is in a hurry too.
