My father has hands so gnarled by arthritis they barely work. His nose
has been broken so many times he can't breath out of it. One knee is
artificial and the other is slated to be replaced this summer (college
football at USC). He rides his bike at least 10 miles every day and
plays golf 3 days a week. He and my mother travel around the world
constantly. He is 77 years old. If it weren't for modern medicine he
would not be able to do any of the things he does today.
I will leave it up to my doctors, physical therapist, chiropractor and
pharmacist to keep me doing the things I love to do. I would rather do
these things now and risk disability than grow old without having done
any of them. And, no, society will not have to pay for me because I
happen to have marvelous insurance.
I am jealous of people with a charmed, injury free life. I wish mine
were so. Since it isn't, I'll just keep popping my pain pills and riding
my horse; and wishing you a long, healthy life.
Best regards,
Tori
