On the subject of hikers and bikers...yes, they do want clean, manicured
trails! We're always hearing about how gross our horse's poop is.
Explaining that it is biodegradable doesn't seem to help. We've even
taken to cleaning up every bit of manure wherever we park our
trailer...if it keeps one more trail open its worth the hassle I guess.
I did scare the tar out of a mountain biker (and myself) while riding in
one of the local parks outside of Mesa. I was happily crusing along at
a nice clip on my good ole faithful Pro, went around a u turn in the
trail and there was a biker sitting right in the middle of the road! I
believe we performed some rather impressive 'airs above ground' while
managing to miss this guy. I have never seen anyones eyes get so big!
We were darn lucky that there weren't cholla cactus there for us to land
in, or it could have been quite a wreck. I do believe we managed to
impress upon this person the perils of resting on the trail directly
around a blind corner. Now we too, make a point of walking every corner
we can't see all the way around.
For the most part though, all of the bikers and hikers we have met on
the trails around the Phx area have been very nice to us. A simple
"thank you" when someone yields the trail to you does wonders.
Sorry this got so long!
