Pam, I had a kind of three year training plan when I got Meggie. She was
eight , unbroke but very gentle. The first year was spent breaking her to
ride with the help of my sister and a lot of books. The second year plan was
to do three 25ers and see if the pony could do that.I spent most of the
second year riding by myself and a lot of it was spent argueing with
Meggie. She ran away with me and generally could be real crabby. But by the
skin of our teeth we made it through the rides and I really began to want
this BAD. Meggie was getting the hang of it and once I changed bits she
didn't run so far. The third year we began the 50's and Meggie became a
ballet dancer at the starts. I learned to piroette with her and it actually
became fun. I began to know her silly ways and to trust her. This pony
would not fall on me and was very sure footed. If I asked her to take on a
particularly scary part of trail she in turn trusted me. She never said no
and I never asked her to do something that she couldn't. So when we made it
to the Tevis in 92 We were a team. Albeit a little one, All the bigwigs
were there, Becky Hart, and some European riders. I was so honored and
humbled to be riding with them. Meggie on the other hand just gave
nasty-face to the big horses. Jane
