Back in the 60's my mother started doing NATRC and endurance rides. For
years our family vacation was camping out alongside the Tevis trail so
someone or another could preride and acquaint their horse with the trail. I
however was scared of all the wild ,great beyond and only wanted to ride in
the ring. I was (am) scared of falling off, falling down cliffs ,mountain
lions, runaway horses that I will probably fall off of and last of all
horses falling on me. Oh yeah, scared of heights too, which probably has
something to do with falling. They did persuade me to ride in many NATRC
rides as a kid,and the country was great, miles and miles of fabulous
stuff, dead cows and bones, live cows that might fall on me . In many ways
I loved it but I had to be on a horse, that yep, you guessed it , might
fall on me. So I grew up, moved away and became a city girl, Oslo, Paris,
Rome.Later I came back to the US and went to visit the Tevis ride. I was
hooked. First I needed a horse, so I bought a short pony from my mom and
began to plan from there. I read everything about endurance I could find
and bought all the books. I crewed for years until I was ready to ride the
rides myself and the pony, well, we have an agreement; she doesn't fall on
me and I don't fall off of her...Jane
