Just a short note. I am a life long rider, new to endurance (5years). Never
wore a helmet. Just wasn't an issue. In April 1991, I took a fall from my
old (15) reliable Arabian Gelding. I broke BOTH arms. On May 30, I gingerly
got back on for the first time. When I was finally brave enough to venture
out on trail I declared that I would always wear a helmet if I rode on trail
by myself (90% of the time). It soon became second nature to have my helmet
on ( like wearing a seatbelt). I realize a helmet would not a prevented my
broken arms, but I just felt that it was a warning! No serious accidents
since. People's outlook on helment wearing has a lot to do with personal
experiences.
