We have our database up and running thanks to Russ Humphrey, and we are in
desparate need of volunteers to load horses into the database- even if it's
just the papers on your own horse or your neighbor's horse, every little bit
will help us get as many on here as we can! There are some pretty neat
features to this database- one of them is the fact that you can give more
than the info on your papers... such as the true height of your horse, his
foal color - which may be important for people who are fond of looking at
coat color for fun! - his endurance records, race or show records that you'd
care to share with us, as well as mug shots of your horses... We are
interested in ALL the Arabs out there at the moment, but this database will
be expanded eventually to include everyone( even the non Arabs SAMM!) if it
gets this far again in another two years! We only need to make sure your
data entry is verified by being directly from AHRA (papers) or if you have
an extended pedigree we need to know where you got it (AHW, other magazines,
articles, Khamsat, etc) so we can verify it... Again, this is for EVERYONE,
and came about with encouragement from a lot of you... make it yours by
contributing to it - it only takes a couple of hours to get a pedigree
loaded, less if you have alot of horses that are already in there. If you
want your horse in it but don't have time to do it, send either Russ or I a
copy of your papers and we'll be glad to load them in!
For those of you who know about the CD Rom form the AHRA, this is different
in that we intend to have show and other records on it, plus photos. I am
not advocating not getting the CD ROm, in fact I am getting one for my own
reference, but we would still like to help all those nutty teens out there
who might inherit a COunt Dorsaz or Bask grandson and try to trace lines
only to find that their efforts are thwarted by not easy enough methods of
discovering their pedigrees! I know- I WAS one. ANd I never had the money to
find out my old guy was related to El Sabok, or that El Sabok was an
endurance winner- who knows what I might have done earlier if I had known! :)
You'll need a Netscape version that's decent... 2.01 or better and a WIndows
program on your computer...I have accessed the site from both Macs and IBM
/clones.
here's the website: www.excell.com/DemonstrationSites/Bloodlines/
If you DO have problems getting to it or using it, please let me know or
email Russ at
russ@doublejoy.com.
There are over 600 horses in there already, long way to go, but we can do it...
