As promised, the article to aerc regarding the issue of cash prizes is
on Miki's desk---Teddy spoke to her (Monday?) to let Miki know it was
coming, but since this is last-minute-under-the-wire submission, Miki
wasn't sure if there would be room for it in this issue. But anyway,
it's there.
I already know in advance that this article isn't going to please
everyone simply because of the strong feelings on the list. I really
did try to be objective and fair and present ALL sides of the
issue, so if you're looking for high melodrama and soapboxing, it's not
there. Please let me say in advance that there are alot of good points
that were brought up on the list that are not discussed in the article
in the detail they probably deserve, simply because the piece is already
over 2200 words and AERC can't afford to print a 200-page EN <g>. The
article really only presents a brief background, an overall view of the
pros and cons and some possible solutions with cause and effect.
However, it should be enough to give the entire membership the
information they need to form their own intelligent decisions.
The next step is to go to convention, contact your directors and get
involved yourself. If you're not a member, here's a good reason to do
so if your finances allow (Shannon, you're forgiven.)(For now.)(g). If
you want to have a hand in where AERC is/is not going, then you've got
no right to complain if you're not in there making noise as a member,
right?
Thank you very much for everyone's input---in reading the article, you
should be hearing alot of echoes of yourselves, which in a membership
publication, is only right.
