I'm the operator of the listserve, and wanted to say
'you're welcome'. Though I had to wince on your comment
about those who stay off the list to avoid being bashed.
Sad, but true - there are many rash, vocal people on
the list who type before they think and don't realize
the damage that they do.
I guess my 'vote' on the cash for awards issue would be
a no - I really don't like the implications, but I also
know that it is inevitable and am therefore only concerned with
creating the proper rules and regulations in preparation.
It seems that your organization and the ride management are
on the right track. Based on Valerie's request to AERC, the
only concern that I have is that the qualifications are
extended to ALL horses, including (*especially*) horses
that are leased to foreign riders. I feel that foreign riders
should also meet qualification. Period. If they've never
done a 100 miler, they should NOT be doing it for the first
time on a leased horse. There should be no double standards
or favoritism.
Good luck - hope it goes well for you.
