I stand corrected. What I meant to say and what DID make a big difference to
people was that Valerie Kanavy was involved. That did not come up for
awhile. Also, no really cared WHOSE ride it was...they were upset at the
idea of cash prizes at ANY ride. In think in the initial stages at least, we
all suffered from shock and in gross error did not contact you directly. You
have my PERSONAL appology on that one.
Remember, too, that your name is NOT well-known outside Virginia
territory..this, I am sure, added to the fire.....WHAT!!! an unknown running
a MONEY ride!!! I am sure you can understand that. I, for one, know your
name, but not you personally...what you have done, are doing or are going to
do. Knowing someone, their principles, intentions and credibility makes a
big difference.
I think most of us were in deep shock that money was suddenly in our sport in
a BIG way..it didn't matter who, what, where, when or why at that point. I,
personally, don't think your race will be adversely afffected by this
discussion. But I feel (and so do others) that is is time for AERC to be
aware of where our sport may go, and as Valerie said, have a grip on it
BEFORE it gets out of hand.
