cracked hooves and tying up

1. I have had trouble with cracked hooved in the south, think its to 
do with very dry clay soilpulling allthe moisture out of hooves, then 
very wet humid weather....anyway, my shoer has fixed our horses by 
carefully taking all the pressure of the crack line, so their is not 
contact with the shoe over that area, this quickly closes the gap 
from coronary band down...had some serious problems we now have 
fixed...I really believe removing pressure works.
Also had a horse that kept thraetening then did tie up,  following 
chemistry and urine analysis discovered low potassium...well two 
years later and an ounce of Mortons lite salt a day in feed and we 
have never looked back..try it ..costs about 6c. a day..
Enjoy this beautiful weather...those smart enough to live in the 
south anyway!!!!!
