Purse Money

I think we need to look at not only this ride but all rides offering
large cash or prize awards. IAHA Sweepstakes, ROC,etc.
Rule 11.8 states:

A ride offering any single prize valued in excess of $1000.00
with the exception of futurities and other contributory schemes
supported by an organization recognized by AERC, shall engage
an AERC steward to monitor the event and shall pay the steward's
expenses.

It seems to me that AERC believes there is a potential for problems
by requiring a steward at such events.
My questions are :

What does AERC have to gain by sanctioning "money rides" ?
What do we have to lose?
And do these rides really need AERC sanctioning anyway ?

I would think the risk to AERC's integrity if just one ride
had serious problems would far outweigh any potential benefits and
I think I'm correct in stating the ROC existed without sanctioning
for a number of years.

I talked to the AERC office this afternoon and was informed that
sanctioning approval for the Cosequin Challange has not yet been
given, but will be voted on by the BOD by mail shortly.
If you wish to voice your opinion, I would suggest you contact
your regional board members before the vote.
