Virginia requires a negative coggins within the last 12 months, a health
certificate obtained from a veterinarian within the last 30 days showing
a physical exam which documents that the horse is free of infection and
which recent innoculations he has recieved, and identifying markings.
Proof of ownership of the horse or the owners written permission to
transport the horse may also be requested.

I have never been asked for any of these documents when traveling from
VA to NC, SC, WV, MD, PA, DE, or KY. I don't know if we have simply
missed the checks or if they aren't conducted very often. We do travel
quite a bit!

There is a publication from the Ag Dpt (I think) that my vet uses to be
sure he has met the requirements for interstate documentation when he is
filling out the travel documents for us. (ie horse is free of and has
not come into contact w/ "name disease outbreak of the month", etc.,
etc.)
