Last June, my husband & I along with another couple,
trailered our horses to Tennessee to ride in the
Great Smoky Mtn. National Park.

We stayed at Gilbertson's Lazy Horse Retreat - what
a wonderful vacation! It is a small private place,
just 3 wonderful log cabins. Ours set off by itself
on 3 acres, came with a round pen if we wanted to keep
our horses right there. The cabin had 2 bedrooms,
LR, fully equipped kitchen, washer & dryer, fireplace,
and jacuzzi in a bay window beside the fireplace. It
had a wonderful porch with rocking chairs and a grill.

Since we had 4 horses, we didn't keep them in the
corral, instead they had really comfy stalls in
a a lovely barn, and separate paddocks for turnout.

We were less than 1 mile from one of the major trailheads
in the Natl Park, just rode down a country lane.

It was wonderful. It was a do it yourself kind of vacation,
(what we wanted), but the owner, Melody Gilbertson provided
great maps of the trails (which were very well marked) and
suggestions of routes we might like to take.

The trails are awesome. So well maintained, and not as
difficult as our southern Ohio hills since the mtns. are
bigger the trails switchback and there are much more gradual
climbs.

I would highly recommend this place - you were treated like
family, it was very reasonable ($85/night for the cabin,
and $10/night for each horse, the 7th night was free).

I would love to live in Tennessee!
