The trainers guide which comes with the V-max gives you TONS of useful
information. You really need a heart monitor in ALL stages of training, else
you don't really know the improvements that are occurring. You will see
better recoveries and more consistent readings as your horse gets fitter and
even more important, and 'off" heart rate almost always indicates some kind
of problem...hopefully in the beginning stages that would not shoe up
otherwise for several days.
I can't tell you all the incredibale stories over the years how people have
said that HRMs have saved their horses and kept them enlightened throught
training and into competition. Hardly anyone in the US rides without
one...EVER.
