Horse Race (mid 1970's??) I believe.

Hi There

I'm Looking for information about a race that took place in the US that
signaled the debut of Icelandic Horses in North America. This race
proved to be a real test of their ability and stamina in that they out
performed many of the more established breeds.

This information is needed for a story I am doing for a children's series

Any help would be appreciated
