Pat, the breeds that come to my mind are Appaloosa, TB and Standardbred. We
owned a Standardbred years ago with wonderful endurance, good mind, stout legs
and feet, and a trot that went on forever. I recently met a STB breeder who's
wife's horse is an Arab/STB cross. Looked like an Anglo-Arab with more
substance.

In any event... I have a 5 year old arab mare who I hope to ride in some
distance events (I am not competitive but I would like to participate just
for the fun and personal achievement). I want to breed her (which will hold
off on events, I'm sure) and am looking for advice on possible breeds to
cross her with. I do want to get away from some arab traits (most bad ones
she does not have) and possibly add some height and make a good all-around
horse not geared for anything specific like jumping or endurance or
what-have-you. I was considering a paint stallian which is full quarter
horse but I'd like to hear any ideas/warning/suggestions any of you might
have. I know all sorts of horses have been used for endurance rides, so I
figure a half-arab won't be too impossible for that. Is there is so much
variation across single breeds that it won't matter too much as long as I
find a good stallion or do breed-to-breed variations really make the difference?

Thanks for any help you can give me!
