Susan:
Re your latest on where you got the threshold numbers; Those are some of the
ones I disputed as they were derived from I believe Standardbreds on a tread
mill under lab conditions. This is considerably different from what happens
in the field!!

First, the leg and foot action on the tread mill is completely different
than that on the trail. Second, the conditioning and training regimen is
tailored for a specific type of stride. Third the pre test conditioning of
the animals used was not constant nor was the state of conditioning the same
in all of the subjects. A very lacking study but never-the-less a very
revealing one and a good starting point.

I think I still have the tapes from when Dr. Persson (I spelled it wrong in
my last message) spoke on the subject at the Equine Sports Medecine meeting
in Reno (low these many years ago)`Hey Guess what?? I just looked in my desk
drawer and found some of them. They are on MC - 60 micro cassette tapes if
you are interested, Sune Persson and also Jerry Gillespie on the cardio
vascular system.

I agree that if you dig in the databases there might be something different.
But it would only come from Persson, Gillespie or perhaps something under
Tom Ivers name. They are the only ones that I know of that really did any
research. (hope I am wrong though.

Well Susan, Looks like we might have started something. Let's hope so.
