DIMR (distance inducted mental retardation) takes many forms, including what
is seemingly rudeness.
I have had the experience (or lack thereof) of asking a runner how he was
doing part way through a marathon and he GLARED at me. THEN, I ran a Ride 'N
Tie!!! Not until then did I realize the intenseness of the run/ride. The
concentration required to overcome pain and fatigue take a great mental toll,
with hardly anything left for civility.
Now I smile, give encouragement and don't ask too much...sort of like how we
treat put crews at 80+ miles...calling them names and being terribly
inconsiderate without intention or realization. There is nothing to even
forgive, it is a chronic and persistent disease with the only cure being a
good nights rest.
