Thanks to all the people who responded regarding panel problems with my
OF Swain CT.

I met a couple at the Jersey Devil 50 who had purchased an OF Patriot. In
less than 6 months they had developed problems with the panels, sent it
back to OF and were told the panels were supposed to be "that loose".
Well, "that loose" was causing severe back and lameness problems. These
folks are quite unhappy at having spent $2200 for a saddle that is causing
lameness!

OF is willing to replace my panels for $250.

I have another solution: I'm using an "English trail pad" from State
Line and a Thinline pad from Sportack (total about $110) as a short term
solution, and a girth at a "normal" tightness (NOT gag-tight as OF
recommends!). We got through the tough Jersey 2-day 50 with no soreness
and no mechanical fatigue (a problem plaguing us toward the end of the
season--from the saddle!!). Believe me, 50 miles in deep Jersey sand
will tell you just how well your tack is fitting your horse. Kasey's
first place finish in the HW division wouldn't have happened if I hadn't
made those changes.

Long term solution: buy a Sharon Saare saddle and learn to love western
rigging.

PS--"Mom" says a special thanks to all the KC area folks who responded to
Kevin's inquiry. It won't take long for him to make new friends!
