Ok, I finally have some usefull tips for the Sport Saddle
people......which, by the way I LOVE MINE!!!! AND it IS one of the new ones
with the fleece on the bottom, but then I really have nothing to compare it
with(like an old one). I did try someone elses old model once before I
ordered mine, but like mine better.....Now for the good stuff........SS
saddle pads. I mentioned the other day that I was looking for an
inexpensive alternative to the Skito Equalizer pad and ordered the
"absorber" Endurance Pad($29.-something) from Country Supply(really quick
delivery!!!). It came in yesterday and did not fit my SS saddle at all, so
that will not work. I will be sticking with the Skito pad for now.
Girths......I found the answer to the girth for the SS! Now, I
have to start this with the fact that for whatever reason almost every
girth(with the SS) rubs my Arab(badly) as well as my App.(just a little).
I have tried 30" neoprene(too big & rubs), 27" neoprene girth(rubs without
a wool/fleece cover), and a 28" nylon/wool with velcro so you can wash
it.........now the last two came from Teddy and Marilyn, I don't remember
which one came from where, but just so you know they were good
girths---just didn't work that well for my horse. I tried moving the
saddle back, changing the breast colar, pulling his legs out, tightening
the cinch tighter and looser, using a bucket to mount, putting covers on
them, having someone look to see how it was rubbing, everything! Take my
word for it this has been a puzzle why this saddle rubs...........anyhow
Tony, my feed store guy, came by last night and brought me another girth to
try, because he had seen the rubs I kept getting. This is THE girth! It
is a Billy Cook 26"(I think) and it is wider and flatter than the other
girths. Now for whatever reason, there are no rubs and the saddle feel
100% more balenced, secure, and does not tilt or slip.....even when
mounting. Anyhow, if anyone else has a problem with the girth on the SS,
this is what has worked for me. Also, I got rid of the latigo(I think that
is what it is called) for the right side(the one that just folds over and
hooks to the girth) of the horse and put the long nylon type on that side
too......the rubs had been worse on the right side of the horse.....this
way you can loosen the saddle or tighted it some from both sides.
Anyhow, I hope this helps those people who just got their SS if
they are having the same problem. That's all!
