<< Does anybody know who makes or resells this product? Or even
something similar! It made out of biothane and has a buckle and a
ring in it. >>
Lois,
We used to use nylon hobbles for horse collars for tying our horses up during
lunch breaks. They are made of very sturdy, wide, woven 2 layer nylon, like
good halters are made of only wider. The large ring through which you pass
one end of the hobble (when using them as hobbles) makes a good strong ring
to attach a lead rope, and they have a sturdy buckle.
More recently, we have used very large-size dog collars, also double
thickness woven nylon. They work fine
Do you use these for grooming in cross ties? Or as a substitute for a halter
on the trail?
Since the invention of halter-bridles, I have not used a horse collar, but
have personal experience with a horse who managed to get his rear hoof
between his neck and the collar, and when he tried to pull it out, the collar
got caught between the shoe and the hoof. By the time we rescued him from
this plight, he had torn all the muscles in his neck and could not lift his
head from the ground. He recovered completely, but I will never use a horse
collar again under any circumstances.
