But of course, we can't have just "business without pleasure". So we
built in a few extra days to visit a friend of ours who has a ranch near
Laramie, WY. I noticed that there is an endurance ride at Wheatland, WY
that Sat. (8/3). Anybody have any info on this ride, e.g. directions to
it from Laramie? Anybody have a horse they want competed? Really...we
fly into Denver Fri @4:00PM, pick up a rental & can be at the ride site
that evening. Talk about a busman's holiday!
Post-conference we head SW to the Mesa Verde area--found a B&B ranch on
the way to stopover. Got the info from The Horse Vacation
guidebook--great publication! Teddy Lancaster carries it--highly
recommeded just for the fun of reading about all these great places to
visit plus there's info on trails/trail heads, where to write to for
maps, etc. The ranch is Saddle Mountain Guest Ranch near Crawford, CO.
They sent us two maps--one of the state (much appreciated) and one
showing local trails for hiking, biking, riding with lots of info on
conditions. Outstanding hospitality!
We've packed our agenda way too full I'm sure! Now I need to figure out
the best way to pack helmuts, half-chaps, etc along with "nice" clothes
for the conference. Suzy has Arab crosses--she does mostly eventing and
dressage but is one heck of a trail rider--so we can get up onto Sheep
Mountain from her ranch (oh gawd, there's a view from every window!).
Can you tell I'm psyched?
So any info on the Wheatland ride would be most appreciated!
