[endurance] going down hill...

Does anybody out there have an endurance horse who has problems going
downhill? My eight year old Polish Arab can trot downhill, but when
it comes to walking down hill, he acts as if his body is unable to
move the way it's supposed to. Instead of picking up his hind foot and
putting it back down, he does this: the hoof breaks over, the front
edge of the hoof drags on the ground, and then snaps back into weight
bearing position. It would be like one of us human types dragging our
toes instead of picking up our feet, then just straightening our leg
to get our heel back on the ground. I've tried it in my quest to
figure out what is wrong with my beast. It's hard. He does it whether
or not I'm in the saddle, so it's not a matter of my weight throwing
him off. Please, if anybody has had a similar problem, email me
privately. If I get a good response, I'll summarize for the list. (If
you have a problem emailing to my address, post to the list and I'll
be sure to read it...)

Thanks,
