First, let me thank you all for your letters of condolence and support.
You cannot believe how much better they made me feel! To answer some questions:
Savoy was Bruce's endurance horse. Bruce, because of his work, doesn't get
to ride very much, but they celebrated 1000 miles at the XP ride last year.
(Savoy was the grey one). Bruce started riding his son this season, so
Savoy had not been ridden since last Oct. So, for those wondering, his
death was not ride related at all!
Savoy ran for six years on 8 acres of pasture with our other stallion. For
the last two weeks, because of travel, they were in a large corral (less exercise?)
We, along with my wonderful vet, Jerry Randall, stayed up all night with
what appeared to be a fairly mild gaseous colic trotting and walking,
oiling, enemas, etc. Fourteen long hours later he was no better, so I
drove 2 hours to OSU. Probably enroute he ruptured his stomach. He was
better than he had been the whole time coming out of the trailer, then 10
minutes later he was acute. Would it have happened if I hadn't taken him?
I think so.
I will drop you a note when I get the autopsy report.
Again, your notes meant so much to me.
