Just my opinion on HRMs, Carold Dee and I have been using Polar Favor HRMs for a
number of years and found them to be accurate, simple to use, and a real
advantage in both conditioning and in actual endurance races, especially over
those riders not using a HRM. recently Bob Walz asked me to try one of the
wireless models that he and Garret Ford began marketing. I have found it to be
even better than the Favor. It took some experimenting to get used to it, but
now I can't imagine not making it first on my list if I were looking at HRM's.
In fact, we are going to get another one and use our old Favors (wire) models as
backups. We found that the wireless model works best when the velcro is
removed. I think the velcro tends to cause the monitor to move with the girth
and, just as in the wire models, you must have a firm touch to get accurate
readings. In answer to Ray Santana's comment that he did not believe the
wireless models can give an accurate reading......this ahs not been the case
with our horses and we have used it on many different horses (we have 12), and
Carod Dee and I have over 12,000 miles of endurance races between us, and she
has many, many multi-day rides to really test all of the equipment we use. I am
not pushing any brand or type of monitor, but if anyone asked I would tell them
to try the wireless,a nd definitely go with a Polar...when we did have a problem
they really backed up their product.
