In defense of Slypner shoes I just finished a two day 100 in Indiana in the
mud and did not lose either a base or insert in the two days. This was my
second 100 without losing any Slypner parts, and the first base set I reset
three times. In fact I have never lost a base shoe, I have only lost one
insert and that was in the field after a reset - we apparently did not clean
out the base enough. The fact that you lost two front shoes could be on how
they were set by your farrier - did he leave too much heel for the horse to
grab? My horse sometimes does forge and has never pulled one off.
