To really understand weights on horses at an endurance ride, ride with a
junior!! My son, who weighs in at 95 pounds, can canter on gravel, zip
around, and his mare acts like she's been nowhere. My daughter, who weighs
in at about 70 pounds, rides an old 18 year old, and he acts like no one is
on him at all! I truly admire horses that carry heavyweight riders. What
I notice is it's easier to make a horse footsore with a heavier rider. I
rode a horse conditioned by a person 50 pounds heavier than me, and I
noticed the horse acted like HE hadn't been anywhere (it just happened
once, though; he QUICKLY got used to my weight!)
