Dear Friends -
Some of you pointed out yesterday that I didn't give the name of my
book about saddles in my post - funny how the obvious isn't obvious
when you live, breath & dream it - sorry! The title is, "Choosing a
Saddle for Endurance and Long Distance Riding." I have published it
myself, Filaree Press is me, and at the moment, the only way to get the
book is to order it from me, i.e., it has no ISBN and isn't available
in bookstores. Please let me say, though, that if you order it, read
it and don't like it, I'll be more than happy to refund your money when
you return the book!!!
This book is definitely a product of the information age: I had an
idea and thanks to a local print shop with a talented and dedicated
staff and to the internet it became a reality.
Someone at the convention asked me what my qualifications are for
writing the book. This is what I told her: I ride my horse over 2000
miles a year, do as many rides as we can get to and I think a lot.
I've been riding since I was six, owned my first horse when I was 10
but took a number of years off while I raised my kids. I'm now 56
years old, and as a middle aged woman, smart enough, I'd like to think,
to look for all the help I can get so that I can continue riding for
another 20 years or so. When I was 51 my best friend persuaded me to
take riding lessons with her and not long after that her husband talked
me into riding his back-up endurance horse - "to keep him in
condition." I was hooked. I did my first ride the next year and
thought I was going to die! Obviously I needed more help. Since then I
have taken more lessons, bought my own horse and thought a lot about
why some saddles seem to work and some don't. I'm an ex-librarian and
just can't seem to help "doing research" as a friend of my daughter's
pointed out recently.
Happy trails!
