Slypner sells special snow pads. They are partial pads that fit around
the rim of the shoe and have a rounded edge that sheds the snow. The
foot still has some ground contact and avoids the downside of full pads.
There are also regular pads that "belly out", i.e. are convex in shape,
that serve the same purpose.
The Slypner pads are a little expensive but will last 2-3 years because
there is no comparable wearing surface hitting the ground. We're putting
them on this week, along with the Slypner shoes with studs (I call them
studded snow tires, Mr. T just calls it "cool"). Maybe this will be the
insurance we need for "no-more-snow"!
