[endurance] Feed Bags at Rides

When we attend rides, we use an electric corral to pen the 2 horses
together (rather than 2 corrals - for simplicity. One horse is an
escape artist when picketed, and I am uneasy tying to the trailer all
night for fear of injury on sharp edges.) While they get along well,
they receive different rations and will "switch" feed buckets. I
definitely have more to do than hold them while they eat each meal
(like studying maps, attend riders meeting, inspect tack, pick out
corral, etc.), & I prefer to avoid tying them to the trailer for
safety reasons.

We tried feed bags the other day at home, & they seemed to take right
to them. Feed bags don't seem to be widely used on the East Coast.
Is there anybody out there that can comment on any potential
disadvantages? We are feeding a VERY good pellet feed and
supplements (dry pellets as well). I would never think of using
anything moist or sticky in them. These bags are canvas w/ leather
bottom and leather patch w/ large air holes in the front. Any folks
out there experienced w/ using feed bags?

Thanks
Linda Flemmer
