both our horses have done this to some extent. The mare, now 11, did
it a lot when we first bought her at 5, but seem to grow out of it
as she got fitter and more balance. Her son, now 5, also does it. He
has rolled toes on his back shoes which helps. He will stop doing it
if he is collected up, when he has to go over uneven ground, or
if he is just excited, so I think laziness has a lot to do with it.
Schooling will help, trying schooling him over poles on the ground.
Don't necessarily have a row of them, scatter them about the arena so
he has to think about what he is doing a bit.
