While it can be beneficial to certain horses here's why I don't use it at
all:
Cost it's ***VERY*** expensive compared to the cost of an every other
month worming program, even more so when you figure the cost of
Ivermectin which is required at least twice a year. I can buy it for
$0.70 cents per day per horse (OTC including tax) but that translates
into almost $5000 per year for our horses. Then I have to add 2 doses of
Ivermectin which brings the total worming bill to over $5300. I currently
spend under $1500 per year for worming.
You still need to worm with Ivermectin at least twice a year.
Given that the only reason I can see to do it is if you have an
individual horse with a significant problem who is very susceptible to
worms and can afford the daily wormer. I can't see doing it on any major
farmjust due to costs and I am very leary about the "no resistance"
claims. Until it's been in use for 12-15 years I don't like to believe
what the manufacturer will say.
