Also got the go ahead to post the dates for the IAHA Competitive Trail
Championship Rides. The top placing horses @ the Region III Championship
last year were horses that normally do endurance and if they were
Sweepstakes, they made money.

I would encourage all of you with Sweepstakes horses to come to these rides.
They're really nice. Well marked, well organized, nice parks to ride in,
and they've traditionally provided meals (I'll put in disclaimer here--call
for more info!) Hope you'll be able to come and ride; how can you go
wrong!!!???!!!

The three 1996 dates for these rides are:

New Horizon Arabian Horse Assn.'s Local Competitive Ride, April 12-13, 1996,
Sunol Regional Park. This is a one-day 25-30 miles ride. Open to all
breeds, no IAHA membership required. However, this ride's mileage counts
towards the Championship rides and is a good way to get acquainted with IAHA
competitive trail rules if you're not familiar with them!

IAHA Region III Championship Competitive Trail Ride, June 21-22, 1996,
Mission Peak Regional Park, This is a one-day 35-40 mile ride. All horses
must be registered Arabian or Half-Arabian. Riders and owners must be
current IAHA members. Horse must have 100 miles of approved Competitive
Trail or Endurance competition, of which at least 25 miles must be IAHA
approved competitive trail, within the last 24 months preceding close of
entries for this ride.

IAHA 25th Annual Championship Competitive Trail Ride, September 27-29, 1996,
Del Valle Regional Park, Livermore, CA. This ride is the international
championship ride and has never been held in California! It is a two-day
70-80 mile ride. All horses must be registered Arabian or Half-Arabian. The
riders and owners must be current members of IAHA. The horse must have 200
miles of IAHA approved Competitive Trail or Endurance Competition, of which
at least 50 miles must be IAHA approved Competitive Trail, within the last 24
months preceding close of entries for this ride.

P.S. I will add from personal experience that many of the trails on these
rides are very steep, and if not steep, they switchback for a really
long time. Be prepared for
lots of up and down.
