g'day dom,

what a terrific goal - i hope you do it!

for your information, and for anyone else interested in riding in
australia at all, i will copy an article from our newsletter about
international riders in australia.

International Endurance Riders
This article has been written for the information of Ride Secretaries in
particular and our members in general. From time to time endurance
riders from other countries visit and wish to ride in our rides. It is
the wish of the association that we assist in this regard whilst having
regard for the guidelines set our by the AERA. Every person who enters
an affiliated endurance ride must be a member of the association and this
requirement also applies to visitors from other countries. The AERA has a
special class of membership in their rules to cater for this need known
as "International". A visitor, who is an endurance rider and who wishes
to ride must apply to the AERA, either directly or via the state body and
be able to establish their bona-fides by providing details of their
experience as an endurance rider and evidence they are a current member
of a recognised endurance riding club. Once these requirements are met
the AERA will issue a special membership letter, at no cost, which will
allow that person to enter five affiliated rides. Under special
circumstances an extension may be granted. Such membership will also
include the rider in the provisions of our public liability insurance
policy. A visitor from overseas who is unable to provide the information
required by the AERA and who wishes to ride must join the Association and
complete the qualification levels whihc apply to all novice endurance
riders. Should you know of an overseas visitor who intends to ride
please bring these matters to their attention so the paperwork can be
attended to before the day of the ride. In these times a fax can be used
to transmit data instantly. So, with a little forethought an overseas
visitor need not be inconvenienced.

If anyone has any questions or need clarification of this, feel free to
email me. If anyone is interested in riding over here, here are the
relevant contacts in the New South Wales state association:

and onto the quilty.....

the 1996 tom quilty national championship endurance ride will be held in
myrtleford, victoria, june 8-10. again i will quote an article from our
newsletter, FYI:

In June 1996 Victoria will host the TOM QUILTY GOLD CUP endurance ride.
Myrtleford has again been chosen after the outstanding success of the
1990 QUILTY. You can be sure the course will be challenging and scenic.
Situated at the base of Mount Buffalo in the picturesque Ovens Valley,
Myrtleford is ideally situated as a base from which to explore the many
attractions of North-East Victoria. (the article goes on to describe some
of the attractions of the area - i'll be brief and assure you it is
indeed a beautiful part of the world with plenty to see and do)
Visitors can expect predictable weather, friendly service and a relaxed
country environment. Myrtleford looks forward to hosting the 1996 TOM
QUILTY and riders can look forward to a challenging course with plenty of
activity for family and friends. We look forward to seeing you at the
1996 Tom Quilty!!!

the article then asks for a registration of interest to be sent to the
above address. i think it is purely for planning purposes, but if
anyone is interested in the form i can forward it to you. otherwise
contact les maclean for more details.

other relevant info - june is winter over here, so that "predictable"
weather is likely to be cold (though not like you guys have to deal with
:-). it's a 160km (100mile) ride, starting at midnight and finishing at
midnight the following night (maximum time). most rides here have all vet
checks at base camp and i haven't heard anything about the quilty being
run gate-into-hold yet, but it may be.

can't thinkof what more you may like to know - feel free to ask if i've
missed anything. and i hope to see some of you over here, if not for the
quilty, then some other time!
