Actually Pfizer dropped that requirement, and now pushes it OTC.
Several local feed stores carry it, so look in your area--it could save you
shipping.
Pfiizer did replace the DVM-only witha Strongid 2CX, same stuff,
twice the concentration. Comes in 10# containers, easier to haul around in
my truck. I sell it for pretty much break wven price, about $40-45,
depending on what quantitiy I order.
Personally, I love the stuff. My picky gelding has become a good
hay-eater, and for the first time in his life, got fat. Some savings in the
amount of grain fed (can often reduce it on Strongid) might be factored into
the costs, and IMHO, it reduces colics. So if you save one vet visit, you've
pretty much paid for a year's supply.
And yes, you should worm w/ivermectin once or twice a year, though I
haven't seen bots around here in I don't know how long.
