Strongid C is definitely more expensive than paste. (BTW, you can buy
it cheaper mail order, but I believe you need an Rx from your Vet. and
the freight cost might bump the price up to what your Vet sells it for)
You *do* have to worm with Ivermectin 2x per year.
The horses *may* loose their natural resistance to parasites while on
the daily wormer, so if you take them off of it, you *must* taper off.
While on Strongic C, the horses did *fabulous*. They were healthier,
they healed faster, coat quality was outstanding, pulse rate,
recoveries, etc. improved. One horse even had an old splint that
reduced by about 80% while on Strongid C. This is all, of course,
anecdotal. My *theory* is that because the horse's energies are not
being used to fight off parasites, they are diverted to other natural
healing and well-being processes ( I know that for some of you that
sounds pretty hoakey, but it works for me...our Vet's wife came to the
same conclusion). In the end, however, the hit on our pocketbook
weighed out over the benefits. The horses were pretty hearty to begin
with, so the benefits were a *luxury*. If I had a horse that wasn't so
hearty, I'd consider it. Also, I guess if I was a serious competitor,
I'd consider it.
Everyone's value system is different, and every horse's response to a
daily wormer is different, so,*you* have to decide.
That's my $.02
