Ah ha - East vs. West. I wouldn't put much stock in the ride statistics.
If you look at the last WEG team, 5 of 6 were from the East. In fact four
of the six were from the NE region. The last three ROC winners came from
the East. So this argument can go on forever.

The major thing the statistics on milage indicates is the very large number
of rides in the West vs. the East. I have to work my butt off to get to 8
rides a year. The closest 100 I have is a 4.5 hour trailer ride away, the
next closes is 10 hours the next is 16 hours. To make sure my horse is not
beat from the drive, I have to take an extra day to let her (and me) rest.
This time off work all mounts up. Granted I have it a little worse in FL,
but not much.

At the convention last year I was talking with someone from the West who
said that she could had 12 rides within a 3 hour drive. A lot of we people
in the East would kill for that. With that many rides that close, the
rides become part of the conditioning and it would be easy to rack up 700
to a 1000 miles a year.

Down here we call the sport endurance driving (the kind that is done with
your butt in a truck seat).
