Dear Teddy,
In case you think forcing a child to wear a seatbelt or be strapped in a car
seat is a violation of his basic freedom, try working in an emergency room
or on an ambulance and seeing what happens when a child is flung through the
windshield like a projectile. Go help the paramedics and coroner scrape the
brains off the pavement. Go tell the parents that their child is going to
die and there isn't a dammed thing that can be done but that child could
have lived unharmed if the parent had taken the time to violate his freedom
by strapping him in.
Go ahead and tell me it is your God-given right to go without a helmet and
wind up a vegetable in some nursing home supported by my tax dollars because
you are a ward of the state because your family couldn't afford the
horrendous costs anymore. No, helmets, seatbelts and chest protectors don't
work every single time, even when used properly. But I *personally* am
alive today because I was wearing a helmet when I should have been. The
helmet had to be replaced; my skull is irreplaceable. I am an experienced
rider and I was not doing anything stupid or dangerous. Yes, "shit" happens
all right. And I will do my best to make sure I survive it.
Pam

Sorry guys, I disagree. There ARE acts of God out there and no matter what
we do, "shit" will happen.
I am one of those people who believes that it is not good enough to tell
your children that the stove is hot. I think they should find out for
themselves.
If we keep try to protect people from themselves...then we are indeed
losing our freedom.
