>>I have witnessed many, many horses that have had cramping problems after
they have successfully completed a ride. These are horses that came thru
with flying colors. As a result, I no longer allow my horses to roll after
a ride for 6 hours. Does any one know why this can cause a problem?<<
I don't know why some horses have a propensity to cramp up after rolling,
but I learned the hard way not to let my mare roll for several hours after
even a short ride. One time my mare cramped up while trying to reach a
horsefly on her back. I had to have the vet treat her for a terrible muscle
spasm. I would assume they do this because of generalized muscle fatigue,
although I'm sure there's some technical metabolic reason.
