And then there's Aly, who went to his first ever show and got third place in
a DRESSAGE SUITABILITY class in endurance tack because the judge claimed he
was the best mover. They asked for an extended trot, so up we collected and
he moved out in the nicest endurance trot you ever saw, complete with
extensions (or so I'm told, *I* didn't see it, I was RIDING him!). Ireally
want to take him to some more shows and see if it works! He hasn't had any
formal training for the show ring, (except halter), but he stays collected
and uses himself ....
I taught him to do silly things like move AWAY from my leg, open gates
mounted, turn on his haunches and forehand (at least our version of it) and
back... He was tickled with himself when he figured out how to do gates.

>> Do some ring work, supple yourself and your horses. There is really a
>> true basis in value to what has now become a farce inthe show ring. It
>> is just too bad the too many show riders can't ride either. Perhaps we
>> can all learn from each other. All we need to do is listen, keep and
>> open mind, and try what we haven't tried before.
