Volunteer to help hang ribbons for an endurance ride. The way this
is done, two or three riders go together. When one stops to tie a
ribbon, the other riders continue on to the next spot. As the next
rider ties, the previous rider passes and goes on. The riders
leapfrog like this all the way down the trail. Really trains a horse
to stop and stand even when his buddies are leaving.
Of course, you'll have your hands full until the horse accepts being
left. I used to joke that it was always Christmas when we were
flagging trails -- I kept hearing Santa ("ho, Ho, HO!!!).
